A RECENT CUSTOMER REBUILD
Step 1
Engines are stripped bare, all core and galley plugs are removed. The block is baked for eight hours in a thermal oven at 700 degrees. The block is naturally cooled, then steel shot for ten minutes. This stress relieves the casting. The block is then magnafluxed and carefully inspected for flaws.
Step 2
The block is align honed to insure the crank shaft main journals are on the same centerline; this reduces bearing wear and improves oil pressure and performance. Cylinders are then bored to specification and honed. Next the block deck surfaces are checked in reference to the crankshaft center line. The block is deburred and all bolt holes are tapped. The block then goes through a high pressure wash to clean all galley holes followed by the application of several coats of rust protectant. All new galley plugs and a full set of brass freeze plugs are installed along with a set of Clevite 77 cam bearings.
Step 3
The crankshaft is precision ground, oil holes are chamfered, micro polished, and rebalanced. Shafts that wont grind to size are discarded. Connecting rods are resized and balanced, pistons are precision fitted to connecting rods, and assemblys are weighed and checked for perfect balance. The above process assures you of a smooth running engine and years of dependability.
Step 4
The block receives three coats of high temperature engine paint. All bolts are heat treated, stress relieved, deburred and hand inspected. All external parts are inspected, painted and brought to the clean room for final check out and assembly.
Step 5
Most cylinder head castings are replaced, if they are available, with new Edelbrock aluminum heads. But all heads receive hard seats for unleaded or regular fuel. Engines receive all new intake valves, all new exhaust valves, new valve springs, new retainers, hardened keepers and Fel Pro valve seals. All castings are magnafluxed and pressure tested. The head surface is milled to ensure a perfect mating surface. All valve heights are measured and adjusted. Each spring is pressure tested and each combustion chamber is vacuum tested for perfect sealing and compression. Every bolt hole is tapped. Cylinder heads receive 3 coats of high temperature paint.
Step 6
Blueprint and final assembly. Each bore is checked with a precision dial bore gauge. Lifter bores are checked for size and correct clearance. Each lifter bore is polished with flap wheels to assure smooth lifter rotation. Pistons are mic'd for perfect cylinder wall clearance. Each Piston ring is checked in bore for proper end gap. Crank and main Bearings are installed in block and bearing clearances are checked. Camshaft is installed in block and checked for proper clearance. Timing chain and sprockets are installed, camshaft degree is checked. Pistons and rod assemblys are installed in bores. Each rod is checked for correct clearances. Crankshaft thrust end play is checked and centered. Cylinder heads are installed and torqued to block. Lifters are installed and clearance checked. New pushrods are installed. All valves are adjusted perfectly to obtain optimum lifter preload. All cylinders are vacuum tested. Complete oiling system is pressure tested to ensure all internal clearances are perfect all tin ware is then installed; oil pan, timing cover, and intake manifold when applicable.
Step 7
Our turn key engines are live run, hot tested, completely broken in, timing is adjusted, carb is adjusted, engine temperature and oil pressure are carefully monitored, engine arrives ready to run right out of the box.
Step 8
Your engine is packed up, sealed in a white box and shipped back to you. We include a complete set of instructions for the installer to follow, along with any factory warning bulletins or helpful hints that will help you and your installer make this a pleasant and gratifying experience. Do it once and do it right!
