After two years of watching the Ford Mustang enjoy huge success, General Motors launched the Chevrolet Camaro into the pony car segment. Chevrolet stated that the Camaro was named after the French word for comrade. The 1967 Camaro was based on the upcoming 1968 Chevy Nova platform.
